Precision begins at
the Atlas

Your nervous system controls everything. We start at the top — where the skull meets the spine — to restore alignment, reduce interference, and allow your body to function as it was designed.

Atlas Orthogonal

Flagship Technique

The Atlas Orthogonal (AO) technique is an advanced, instrument-based approach focused exclusively on the C1 vertebra — the topmost bone in your cervical spine, known as the atlas.

When the atlas misaligns, it exerts pressure on the brainstem and disrupts the neurological signals that regulate every system in your body. Even a fraction-of-a-degree shift can produce far-reaching effects: chronic headaches, neck pain, dizziness, numbness, and systemic dysfunction.

AO uses precise X-ray analysis and a specialized percussion instrument to correct misalignment with no manual manipulation, no twisting, and no cracking. The adjustment is gentle enough to be barely felt — but powerful enough to create measurable, lasting change.

Our doctors are among only a handful of AO-certified chiropractors in the Louisville region, trained in the exact protocols developed at the Atlanta School of Chiropractic.

Why it matters

One degree off at the top. The whole skeleton compensates.

When the atlas shifts, the body’s survival instinct keeps the eyes level and the airway open — at the expense of structural symmetry. The cascade runs from skull tilt all the way to an apparent short leg.

Atlas Misaligned
C1↗↑ high↓ low rib hump ↑ tiltedshortlegUneven load · accelerated wear
C1 Atlas displacement. A shift of even 1–2mm forces the brainstem to signal postural muscles to compensate — prioritizing eye level and airway over structural symmetry. The cascade begins immediately.
Shoulder elevation & rib cage rotation. One shoulder rises, the rib cage rotates, and the thoracic spine develops a compensatory lateral curve — producing a visible rib hump and uneven disc loading.
Pelvic tilt & lumbar counter-curve. The pelvis rotates to maintain the center of gravity. The lumbar spine bends in the opposite direction. One hip sits higher — creating an apparent leg length discrepancy of ¼ to ½ inch.
After atlas correction. Because these are compensatory — not structural — distortions, correcting the atlas alone often allows the shoulders, thoracic spine, pelvis, and lumbar curve to self-correct. No manipulation of the lower spine required.

Complementary Techniques

When clinically appropriate, we integrate additional chiropractic methods to address the full spine — each selected based on your individual presentation and goals.
Torque Release Technique
A neurologically focused, low-force method using the Integrator instrument. Corrects spinal tension at its root — the tone of the nervous system — rather than targeting individual segments in isolation.
Activator Method
A spring-loaded, hand-held instrument delivers a fast, precise impulse to specific spinal joints. Gentle enough for all ages — including pediatric and geriatric patients.
Thompson Technique
Utilizes a segmental drop table — sections release under the adjustment, reducing thrust needed while amplifying correction. Effective for full-spine and pelvic alignment.

What to expect

01
Intake & history
Detailed health history and postural analysis. We want to understand your full picture — not just the presenting symptom.
02
X-ray analysis
Precision imaging determines the exact degree and direction of atlas misalignment before any adjustment is made.
03
Instrument adjustment
The AO percussion instrument delivers a targeted, painless correction. No twisting. No cracking. No guesswork.
04
Re-evaluation
Post-adjustment testing confirms the correction. We measure outcomes, not just effort.
