Services — Non-Opioid Pain Management

Real relief.
Without the risks.

Chronic pain deserves better than a prescription that masks it, creates dependency, or leaves you trading one problem for another. Our non-opioid pain management program offers clinically validated alternatives — tools that address the biology of pain rather than simply suppressing the signal.

Our non-opioid pain management program is led by Kiley Brown Newton, APRN. Kiley conducts all consultations, evaluations, and prescribing — coordinating directly with our chiropractic, physical therapy, and laser therapy teams to ensure every tool is working in the same direction.

A different approach to pain

You've tried the standard path.
There's another one.

"Pain is not the enemy — it's the signal. The goal isn't to silence it at any cost. It's to find out what's driving it, and address that directly."
Opioid medications are powerful pain suppressants — but they come with serious costs. Dependency, tolerance, cognitive effects, hormonal disruption, and the reality that they treat the experience of pain without touching its source. For many patients, there was never a non-opioid alternative meaningfully offered. This program changes that. Whether you want to avoid opioids entirely, reduce your current reliance on them, or have simply exhausted conventional options without lasting relief — we have clinical tools that work through entirely different mechanisms and carry none of the same risks.

Chronic pain is not one condition. It is a collection of overlapping biological, neurological, and inflammatory processes — each of which can be addressed with precision. The right tool for the right mechanism produces results that opioids cannot, because they are targeting the root of the problem rather than numbing the response to it.

Conventional opioid management
Suppresses the pain signal — does not address its cause
High risk of tolerance — increasing doses over time
Dependency and withdrawal risk
Cognitive and hormonal side effects
Does not improve function or quality of life long-term
vs
Our non-opioid program
Targets the biological drivers of chronic pain
No tolerance — effects are cumulative, not diminishing
No dependency or withdrawal
No cognitive impairment or hormonal disruption
Aims to restore function, not just reduce sensation

Treatment options

An integrated approach — not a limited menu

Chronic pain rarely has a single cause — and it rarely responds to a single treatment. Our non-opioid pain management program draws from the full range of services available across our practice: chiropractic care, physical therapy, exercise therapy, massage therapy, laser therapy, red light therapy, functional medicine, and more.

What sets this program apart is Kiley’s ability to add prescription-level non-opioid tools to that integrated foundation — options that most practices simply don’t offer. The following represent key additions Kiley brings to your care plan. They are not the ceiling of what’s available to you. They are an expansion of it.

Prescription option
Low Dose Naltrexone
LDN · prescribed by Kiley Brown Newton, APRN
Naltrexone at standard doses blocks opioid receptors — used for addiction treatment. At a fraction of that dose, something different happens: the brief, temporary block triggers the body to produce more of its own natural pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory compounds. Think of it like turning down a dimmer switch just enough that the brain turns the lights up on its own — and keeps them there.

The result is a meaningful reduction in neuroinflammation, modulation of the immune response that drives chronic pain, and — for many patients — the first sustained relief they have experienced after years of inadequate management.

LDN has an expanding evidence base across a range of difficult-to-treat conditions, and carries none of the dependency, tolerance, or cognitive risks associated with opioid therapy. Kiley evaluates candidacy and manages all prescribing and monitoring.

Evaluation option
Medical Marijuana Card Evaluation
Kiley Brown Newton, APRN · state-certified evaluator
Medical cannabis engages the body’s endocannabinoid system — a regulatory network involved in pain signaling, inflammation, sleep, and immune function. For qualifying patients, it offers meaningful relief for a range of chronic pain conditions without the risks associated with opioid therapy.

Kiley Brown Newton, APRN is certified to conduct medical marijuana card evaluations in the state of Kentucky. The evaluation is a thorough clinical assessment of your medical history, current conditions, and qualifying criteria — conducted with the same clinical rigor applied across all of our services.

Medical cannabis does not replace clinical care — it complements it. Kiley helps patients understand how it fits into their broader pain management plan and coordinates with the rest of your care team accordingly.

Low-Level Laser Therapy
Erchonia EVRL & PL-Touch · FDA cleared
Low-level laser therapy — also called cold laser — uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate tissue and stimulate the cellular repair processes that reduce inflammation and pain at their source. It works entirely through photochemical mechanisms — no heat, no tissue damage, no side effects.

Our Erchonia EVRL and PL-Touch devices hold multiple FDA market clearances for musculoskeletal pain, including neck and shoulder pain, chronic low back pain, and plantar fasciitis. For chronic pain patients, laser therapy reduces the inflammatory burden that sustains pain cycles — and does so without any systemic effects or drug interactions.

Sessions are brief, painless, and integrate seamlessly alongside LDN or other components of your pain management plan.

Red Light Therapy
Dahlia Pinnacle Bed · 4 wavelengths · 14-minute sessions
Where low-level laser targets specific sites of pain with clinical precision, our Dahlia Pinnacle Bed delivers full-body photobiomodulation — addressing systemic inflammation across the entire body simultaneously. Four independent wavelengths (630nm, 660nm, 850nm, 940nm) penetrate tissue at varying depths, stimulating mitochondrial repair, reducing inflammatory cytokines, and improving circulation to pain-affected tissue.

For chronic pain patients — particularly those with widespread inflammation, fibromyalgia, autoimmune-driven pain, or systemic conditions — the whole-body anti-inflammatory effect of regular red light sessions can produce meaningful reductions in baseline pain levels over time. Sessions are 14 minutes, comfortable, and require no recovery time.

The full picture
These prescription and clinical options work alongside — not instead of — our full suite of structural and wellness services. Chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, exercise therapy, massage therapy, spinal decompression, and functional medicine are all part of the toolkit available to chronic pain patients at Louisville Spine & Wellness. Kiley coordinates across all of them to build a plan that addresses your pain from every relevant angle.

The full toolkit

Every service working toward one goal — less pain

Chronic pain is best addressed from multiple angles simultaneously. The following services from across our practice are all active tools in your pain management plan — selected and coordinated by your care team based on your specific presentation.
Chiropractic Care
Atlas Orthogonal correction and spinal alignment remove nerve interference that amplifies pain signals throughout the body. A well-aligned spine is a less painful one.
Physical Therapy
Manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, and targeted therapeutic exercise address the movement dysfunction and muscular compensation patterns that sustain chronic pain cycles.
Massage Therapy
Swedish, deep tissue, and sports massage reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and lower the nervous system's pain response — producing both immediate relief and cumulative long-term benefit.
Spinal Decompression
For chronic pain driven by disc herniation, stenosis, or degenerative disc disease — the Back On Trac system creates negative intradiscal pressure to reduce nerve compression and restore disc health.
Exercise Therapy
Functional movement screening and progressive corrective exercise rebuild the movement quality and stability that chronic pain has eroded — reducing the physical load that keeps the pain cycle active.
Functional Medicine
Gut health, hormonal balance, and systemic inflammation are major — and frequently overlooked — drivers of chronic pain. Kiley's functional medicine approach addresses these root causes alongside structural and pharmacological care.
Laser Therapy
FDA-cleared Erchonia cold laser reduces localized inflammation and nerve irritation at the site of pain — without heat, without side effects, and without drug interactions with any other component of your plan.
Red Light Therapy
The Dahlia Pinnacle Bed delivers full-body photobiomodulation — reducing systemic inflammation, improving cellular energy production, and lowering the inflammatory baseline that makes chronic pain so persistent.
And more — as your needs evolve
Your care plan is not fixed. As you progress, your team adds, adjusts, and removes services based on what your body responds to. The goal is always the same — less pain, better function, sustainable results.

Who this is for

Conditions we address

Our non-opioid program is particularly well-suited for patients with the following conditions — and for anyone living with chronic pain who is looking for a safer, more sustainable path forward.
Neuropathy
Peripheral nerve pain driven by diabetes, chemotherapy, compression, or unknown origin. LDN and laser therapy address the neuroinflammatory component conventional pain meds rarely touch.
Fibromyalgia
Widespread musculoskeletal pain with central sensitization. LDN has one of its strongest evidence bases in fibromyalgia — reducing pain scores and fatigue without the side effect burden of standard medications.
Chronic back & neck pain
Long-standing spinal pain that has not responded adequately to conventional management. Laser therapy, red light, and LDN address the inflammatory drivers that sustain the pain cycle.
Autoimmune pain
Joint, tissue, and systemic pain driven by immune dysregulation. LDN's immune-modulating mechanism makes it particularly effective for autoimmune-driven pain conditions.
Long COVID · POTS · MCAS
Post-viral inflammatory conditions that produce chronic pain, fatigue, and systemic dysfunction. LDN's anti-neuroinflammatory effects are increasingly supported in this patient population.
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Persistent pain, fatigue, and post-exertional malaise driven by neuroinflammation and immune dysregulation — an area where LDN has shown consistent benefit in clinical literature.
Joint & arthritis pain
Inflammatory and degenerative joint conditions that produce ongoing pain limiting function and quality of life. Red light and laser therapy reduce joint inflammation directly.
Post-surgical pain
Pain persisting after surgical intervention — when healing is complete but the pain signal remains. Non-opioid approaches address the inflammatory and neurological components without adding dependency risk.
Chronic pain — any origin
If you have lived with pain that hasn't responded to what you've been offered — or you simply refuse to manage it with opioids — this program was built for you.

Getting started

What to expect

Every pain presentation is different. Kiley takes the time to understand yours before recommending anything.
01
Consult
Comprehensive pain consultation
Full history · pain pattern · prior treatments · goals
Kiley conducts an in-depth consultation reviewing your complete pain history — what you've tried, what has and hasn't worked, your current medications, and your goals. Understanding the full picture is what allows her to recommend the right combination of tools for your specific presentation — not a generic protocol.
02
Evaluation
Clinical evaluation & candidacy assessment
LDN · medical marijuana · laser · red light
Kiley evaluates your candidacy for each modality — LDN prescribing, medical marijuana card evaluation, laser therapy, and red light therapy. Lab work is ordered where clinically warranted. Each component is assessed individually and in the context of your full care picture, including any chiropractic, PT, or functional medicine care you are receiving.
03
Protocol
Individualized non-opioid pain plan
Combined modalities · sequenced · supervised
Based on your evaluation, Kiley designs a personalized plan — selecting and sequencing the modalities most appropriate for your condition. Some patients benefit from a single tool. Most benefit from a combination. The plan is documented, supervised, and adjusted based on your response. Nothing is prescribed or recommended without clinical justification.
04
Monitoring
Ongoing follow-up & refinement
Progress assessment · protocol adjustment
Kiley monitors your progress through regular follow-up appointments — tracking pain scores, functional improvement, and your response to each component of the plan. Protocols are adjusted as your body responds. The goal is not indefinite management — it is meaningful, measurable improvement in your pain and your quality of life.

Integrated with your structural care
Non-opioid pain management works best when it is part of a broader, coordinated care plan. LDN reduces neuroinflammation — which improves how your nervous system responds to chiropractic adjustments. Laser therapy reduces soft tissue inflammation — which accelerates physical therapy outcomes. Red light therapy reduces systemic inflammatory load — which supports every other intervention you are receiving. Kiley coordinates directly with your chiropractic and PT team to ensure your pain management and structural care are working together, not in parallel.

Your visit

What to bring to your first appointment

01
Your full pain history
Every treatment you've tried, every medication you've taken, what helped and what didn't. The more complete the picture, the more precise Kiley's recommendations will be.
02
Current medications
A complete list of everything you're currently taking — prescription, over-the-counter, and supplements. This shapes which modalities are appropriate and how they're sequenced.
03
Any recent lab work or imaging
MRI, CT, blood work, or other diagnostic results from the past two years. These provide clinical context and may reduce the need for duplicate testing.
04
An honest goal
What does better look like for you? Sleep through the night. Return to work. Stop relying on a medication you don't want to need. A clear goal shapes a more effective plan.
You deserve options. If you have been told that opioids are your only choice — or that your pain is simply something you’ll have to live with — we respectfully disagree. Schedule a consultation with Kiley and find out what non-opioid pain management can do for you.
